PENTAX has launched an exclusive high definition (HD) coating technology for its brand new HD PENTAX lenses that are used in the PENTAX K-Mount cameras.
The new multi-layer lens coating technique scores over conventional multi-layer lens coatings by providing a low refractive index and enhanced light transmittance. The lens coated with this new technology will deliver clear and sharp images sans ghosting and flare even under exacting lighting conditions like backlight owing to the minimized reflection resulting from the advanced coating. The performance of the HD coating is almost on par with nanotechnology enabled PENTAX Aero Bright Coating process applicable for lenses of higher grades.
The new HD PENTAX D FA 645 Macro 90 mm F2.8 ED AW SR medium format interchangeable lens and the HD PENTAX K-Mount DA 560 mm F5.6 ED AW super telephoto, interchangeable lens were also launched along with the advanced coating technology. These lenses are the first amongst PENTAX products to feature the PENTAX HD Coating. Future interchangeable lens offerings from PENTAX for its digital cameras incorporating the new coating will be branded with the HD PENTAX label.
The HD PENTAX coating reduces reflection by 50% over the visible spectrum of light when compared to traditional lens coatings. The high packing density and robust bonds amongst the coating materials imparts high rigidity to the layer of coating. Conventional coating methods deliver uneven coating that impacts image quality. This is because of the vacuum evaporation method of coating deposition employed. The HD coating from PENTAX however, adapts a PENTAX specific manufacture process that imparts coating layer thickness control at nanometer level.
