Polymer-to- Ceramic Technology Provider Starfire Systems Collaborates with Cytec for Motorsport Applications

Starfire Systems, Inc., a leader in the field of Polymer-to-Ceramic™ technology, is proud to announce the completion of an extended development program with Cytec, focusing on applications for Formula One and the wider Motorsport industry.

During the program, Starfire provided propriety polymers, engineered compounds and manufacturing know-how and assisted Cytec who, through further research and product enhancements, have developed a novel experimental lightweight ceramic matrix prepreg system, for applications such as exhausts and heat shields where temperatures can reach as high as 800C.

Cytec's new product, EF1812, has been subject to extensive customer testing with positive feedback showing the product to be resilient in service up to 800C.

EF1812 components, subsequent to an initial 190C autoclave cure, require a series of re-impregnation and pyrolysis cycles to reach optimum density. Starfire and Cytec are working together to offer a linked supply chain for those customers without full in-house processing capabilities and manufacturing expertise.

The system permits the use of standard 3k carbon fiber woven fabrics reinforcement which contributes to the overall cost effectiveness.

"We are very excited to continue our relationship with Cytec. Since our partnership began in January 2011, Cytec's product development efforts have helped us advance our materials for application in the motor racing community and we look forward to further advancing our technology as a result of our combined efforts," said David Devor, CEO of Starfire Systems.

"Our partnership with Starfire has provided us with another competitive edge in the Motorsport industry," explained Steve Cope, Motorsport Market Sector Manager for Cytec "As a technology leader we are continually looking to advance our product and service offerings, and we will continue to make great strides in developing new pre-preg and components for the motor racing industry."
