RoHS - Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment
Within the past few years, governments around the world have been tightening measures aimed at keeping electronic products out of landfills by demanding that companies find ways to lengthen the products’ life cycles and make them less harmful to the environment. These tougher regulations will affect the electronics industry most significantly in the coming years.
The European Legislators have adopted two regulations, WEEE and RoHS, that will affect every electronics company that ships products to Europe. These regulations will be effective July 1, 2006. China has also adopted RoHS and it’s strict adherence for exported targeted goods to China.
RoHS demands a phase out of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDE). Bodycote Materials Testing can certify your materials for RoHS requirements.
