Combining easy processing with a unique spectrum of mechanical properties, Borealis’ new Borstar® FB4370 grade offers new and improved packaging solutions to polyethylene (PE) converters.
Borstar FB4370 is the only PE film grade that balances mechanical properties such as high stiffness, toughness, easy opening and downgauging, with outstanding extrusion properties for higher production and packaging speeds.
Borstar FB4370 is produced using Borealis’ proprietary, state-of-the-art, multi-modal Borstar PE 2G process technology. This technology enables properties to be tailored to the precise performance requirements of a wide range of packaging applications in blends and co-extruded films.
In addition to high stiffness and toughness, these properties include easy opening in blends or co-extruded films for industrial liners, excellent heat sealability in co-extrusions for bags and pouches, improved creep resistance for heavy duty bags and the superior shrink properties necessary, for example, in collation shrink applications.
Moreover, combined with single site catalyst produced linear low density polyethylene (mLLDPE), the new Borstar film grade satisfies the demand for excellent hot-tack properties and puncture resistance in applications such as form, fill and seal (FFS) packaging.
Where high transparency is required in a three-layer co-extrusion, Borstar FB4370 is ideal as the core layer in combination with mLLDPE outer layers, such as Borealis’ Borecene™.
Borstar FB4370 is also suited for use in monofilm. Typically, the new PE film grade can be blended at 10%-50% to improve film stiffness and provide an excellent anti-blocking effect. Borstar FB4370 also shows excellent heat sealability in monofilms for bags and pouches.
Not least important for the end user Borstar FB4370 delivers a homogeneous appearance and gives a silk-like film surface to provide an aesthetic finish to applications.
