Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd ("SEPL") has awarded contracts for basic design and engineering to ABB Lummus Global-Toyo Engineering Corporation JV ("ABB-TEC JV") for a world-scale ethylene cracker facility at the Pulau Bukom manufacturing complex, Singapore.
The ethylene cracker facility, expected to begin operations in 2009, is planned as a collaboration between Shell and the Singapore Economic Development Board.
ABB-TEC JV is expected to provide engineering, procurement and construction management following final investment decision expected in 2006.
"We look forward to working with the contract parties to deliver the projects safely and successfully," said Mr. Fang Yea Yee of SEPL, General Manager for the project.
"We are delighted that SEPL has entrusted us with the award of the ethylene cracker contract, which incorporates our proprietary ethylene technology. We now very much look forward to working together with the Shell team and our partner TEC and to meeting all of the project objectives." said Foeke Kolff, General Manager ABB Lummus Global.
In line with Shell's strategy of 'more upstream and profitable downstream', the integrated refining and petrochemicals complex will contribute to Shell's downstream business. The project will take advantage of site and location benefits to contribute to the overall profitability through maximum integration and optimal supply and market logistics.
