Lucideon, the international materials technology company, is hosting a webinar, ‘Alternative Uses for Bricks in Structural Work: Moving Beyond Thin Brick’ on Tuesday 01 November 2016, 3pm (UK time), 10am (EDT).
The webinar will be hosted by a recognized leader in the global brick industry, Dr Geoff Edgell, Director and Principal Construction Consultant at Lucideon. The webinar will focus on alternative uses for bricks in structural work.
The focus on thin bricks, especially in the US, is on using them as a veneer within structures. I believe that unless a wider approach is taken to incorporate bricks into a build, the sustainability of the brick industry cannot be ensured.
During the webinar, I’ll be looking at alternative brick options, as opposed to just the popular thin bricks currently used; this will include the approach taken to introduce highly perforated clay bricks into the UK market. I will also discuss the possibility of using bricks in drainage applications, acoustic situations and single leaf construction, all of which could lead to new opportunities. Implementing these applications could be achieved by adapting some pioneering works that were performed back in the 1980s.
