Motion plastics specialist, igus has introduced a variant of its iglidur tribopolymer material, RW370, that complies with EU fire protection standard EN 45545 for railway vehicles. The material is claimed to be resistant to harsh media, durable and well-suited to a range of bearing applications within rail transportation systems, including door guides and hinges, as well as in rotating joints and adjusting mechanisms for seats and tables.
“In transportation, mechanical components must be stable, strong and reliable, capable of withstanding high cycle rates, harsh environments and fluctuating weather conditions,” said Robert Dumayne, director of drytech bearings, igus. “Without requiring external lubrication, igus drytech high-performance polymers deliver wear-resistant and maintenance-free continuous operation, improving efficiency as well as being versatile and cost-effective.”
Other components from igus for the rail industry, including heavy-duty bearings for gear, brake and coupling systems, as well as maintenance-free lead-screw units for motion applications in switchgear and motor drives for points, doors and ramps.
The company also offers online product selection and lifetime calculation tools to aid engineers in the selection process for rail industry applications.
