Hydro's aluminium tubing customers will benefit from a wider range of products with the merger of two businesses in the UK and Germany.
Hydro's aluminium tubing units in Workington, UK, and in Hannover, Germany, have been merged into a strategic business unit to create an even better product range in size and alloy composition.
The strategic business unit will specialize in welded tube manufacture. Both companies use compatible technology and have complementary product ranges, allowing technology and best practice transfer, and creating new market opportunities for both companies.
The Workington-based plant, Ellay Enfield, specializes in smaller tubes for the automotive heat transfer market, while Alutubes in Hannover specializes in larger tubes for structural applications. The creation of a welded tube strategic business unit will therefore allow both companies to extend their product ranges and increase existing equipment utilization.
"The synergy between the two companies and the market opportunities that will be created make this a good fit that will benefit the stakeholders in both companies," says Andrew Pallister, head of the strategic business unit.
