GE Plastics Open Korean Technology Center

GE Plastics today announced the official opening of its new Korea Technology Center (KTC) in Sungnam City, Kyunggi Province to provide Korean and Asia Pacific customers with state-of-the-art application development capabilities. The KTC is the seventh GE Global Application Technology (GApT) center worldwide. Through the GApT initiative, GE Plastics is making significant investments in new equipment, machinery, and technical customer support to further drive the use of its innovative materials in high-end applications. The Korean center will offer a wide range of services including part performance testing, dimensional testing, optical and defect analysis, and advanced injection molding.

Moon-Sung Hwang, president, GE Plastics, Korea, said, “The fast-growing Korean marketplace is a key focus for GE Plastics. With the opening of the center here, we are demonstrating our strong commitment to providing customers in Korea – and the Asia Pacific region – with outstanding technical support and expertise to help them grow and compete successfully. New materials technologies are crucial to such Korean industries as automotive and mobile phones and GE Plastics can now provide a complete array of application development services – with convenience and speed.”

The new facility occupies a 2,000-sq.-meter building that includes four stories and a basement level, which houses GApT laboratories, injection molding equipment, and a part testing laboratory as well as a showroom displaying samples of products made with GE’s latest materials, providing a look at the great potential for plastics innovation. Other highlights include a clean room for LCD display film evaluation and a Virtual Lab for real-time collaboration with GE experts worldwide.

Special equipment in the KTC includes a high-precision measuring machine for dimensional testing an optical measuring machine and a machine for injection molding.

“With the opening of our new technology center in Korea, we are expanding our reach into a critical region of the world, giving our customers here the full application development support they need to maintain their competitive edge as leaders in the industries they serve,” said Rick Pontillo, general manager, Global Application Technology, GE Plastics.
