The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences cordially invites students and professional to attend the course in Materials for Biomedical Engineering Applications to be held at the University of Surrey, Guildford between 28 January – 1 February 2008.
The aim of the course is to give an understanding of the methods of production and handling of biomaterials for use in the design, development and testing of clinical devices for implantation, surface contact or percutaneous surgical techniques.
The course will also provide broad based knowledge which complements the basic understanding of biocompatibility, physiology and biological response of human tissue to materials, which form key constituents of prosthetic, orthotic and implanted devices used in medicine and healthcare.
On successful completion of the course, all participants should be able to:
Describe and critique the behaviour of the human system when exposed to non-biological materials Identify and specify preferred materials from a wide range of materials available to the bioengineer for incorporation into medical devices and systems Advise on the relative merits of different approaches to solutions for replacement tissues or tissue repair enhancement
