Kobe Steel has collaborated with Jiangsu ALCHA Aluminium, a key Chinese producer of aluminum rolled products in China, in order to expand its Chinese aluminum business. ALCHA and Kobe Steel have decided to form a joint venture in Baotou, Inner Mongolia to manufacture and market sheet and aluminum coil.

Imec and Flamac Partner to Develop Innovative Semiconductor Materials for Solar Cells

Imec, a Leuven, Belgium-based nanoelectronics research center is collaborating with a subsidiary of Strategic Initiative Materials in Flanders to design innovative semiconductor materials for solar cells. As part of this partnership, innovative materials are screened as a choice for the normal solar cells made of copper indium gallium and selenium (CIGS).

GMZ Energy Receives Fund to Develop Novel Renewable Technologies Using Thermoelectric Materials

GMZ Energy, a company specializing in nanotechnology-based thermoelectric materials, has declared that it has received $14 million through the Series C funding headed by Mitsui Ventures. BP Alternative Energy, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Energy Technology Ventures and I2BF Global Ventures were the other investors.

Researchers Produce Low-Cost Solar Paint Using Semiconducting Nanoparticles

A research team led by Prashant Kamat, who serves as an investigator at the Center for Nano Science and Technology (NDnano) of the University of Notre Dame as well as John A. Zahm Professor of Science in Chemistry and Biochemistry, has utilized quantum dots, which are semiconducting nanoparticles, to develop a low-cost solar paint for generating energy.

Researchers Develop Biocompatible Endoscope Using Tin Oxide Nanowires

A research team led by Peidong Yang, a chemist at the Materials Sciences Division of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab), has developed a nanowire endoscope by integrating a waveguide of tin oxide nanowire with an optical fiber’s tapered end, paving the way for capturing optical images of the inside of an individual live cell at high resolution or accurately delivering drugs, proteins, genes or other cargo without causing damage to the cell.
