The AxSEAM™ scanner from Evident has been improved for long seam weld inspection, for example, in electric resistance welded (ERW) pipes, and its simple design reduces the number of adjustments needed when probe separation, pipe diameters, or scan orientation is changed.
The novel ScanDeck™ module enables an operator to configure and carry out the scan separately without the need to track or manipulate the data acquisition instrument. The easily adjustable and redesigned probe holders can hold up to four time-of-flight diffraction (TOFD) and phased array (PA) probes.
Versatile Multitechnology Solution
When the AxSEAM scanner is used in combination with the OmniScan™ X3 flaw detector, it allows rapid PA/TOFD screening of long seam welds as well as highly targeted inspection of the areas of interest by making use of the total focusing method (TFM)—without the need to switch the probes.
TFM offers even focus in the area of interest, thereby making it simpler to characterize the difficult-to-detect indications that are regular in ERW long seams, for example, hook cracks and vertical flaws.

Flexible Configuration
The AxSEAM scanner provides a comprehensive scanning system that needs just minor adjustments to swap between circumferential and longitudinal scanning on pipes.
Longitudinal
The AxSEAM scanner has the ability to scan longitudinal welds on pipes with sizes ranging from 152.4 mm (6 in.) OD up to flat.

Circumferential
The AxSEAM scanner equipped with two probes helps inspect circumferential welds on pipes measuring as small as 114 mm (4.5 in.) OD.

The AxSEAM scanner fitted with four probes can perform circumferential scanning on pipes starting at 254 mm (10 in.) OD [shown below is a 324 mm (12.75 in.) OD pipe].
