PicoQuant Signs Agreement to Use gSTED in MicroTime 200 STED Time-Resolved Confocal Microscope

PicoQuant GmbH, specialist in single photon counting applications and fluorescence instrumentation has signed an agreement with the Max Planck Society and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) to use the gated STED technology (gSTED) in the new time-resolved confocal microscope MicroTime 200 STED.

Quasi-Random Pattern of Blu-Ray Discs Could Enhance Light Absorption of Solar Cells

An interdisciplinary team of researchers at Northwestern University have discovered that Blu-ray discs could also help improve solar cell performance. These discs have a quasi-random pattern for data storage. When this pattern is transferred to solar cells it can increase the light absorption capacity of these cells.

High-Throughput X-ray Imaging Method Studies Single Biological Particle Structure

A research team from Uppsala University has developed an imaging method to study biological particle structures using X-ray lasers. They used carboxysome – a tiny cellular organelle in photosynthetic bacteria to test the method. The results showed that the technique provides an in-depth knowledge in understanding the structure of smaller organisms through 3D imaging.

A new type of carbon nanotubes-based, flat, energy-efficient light source has been developed by researchers from the Tohoku University in Japan. This light source challenges the dominance of LEDs as the most energy-efficient lighting solution. It demonstrates a very low 0.1Wh power consumption that is approximately hundred times lower than the consumption of standard LEDs.
