Rockwool Insulation Helps Keep Exotic Animals Warm at Newquay Zoo Despite Cold Climate

Newquay Zoo and Rockwool have partnered to ensure the habits for exotic animals, which include African Lions, Silvery Marmosets and Kinkajous, remain warm despite Britain's artic weather conditions. The Zoo will install Rockwool insulation in its new enclosures to ensure that exotic species used to steamy tropical rainforests and sun drenched savannahs remain warm and happy.

The first occupants of the Zoo to benefit from the new partnership will include tamarin monkeys, lemurs and marmosets, which are set to occupy a new enclosure currently being developed at the Newquay facility. The Zoo is once again affirming its commitment to building the best environments to support the conservation of endangered and threatened species, by maximising their opportunities for breeding. The Zoo renowned for its conservation efforts called upon Rockwool to ensure its enclosures mirror the complex habitats from which the animals are drawn. Insulated enclosures also ensure animals that favour colder climes are kept cool during the warmer summer months.

John Meek Animal Collections Manager at Newquay Zoo commented: "It is not just humans that need to keep warm in these artic conditions. While our penguins love the snowy and icy conditions, we want to ensure that all our animals from more tropical habitats are living in an appropriate temperature. It is vital to our conservation and breeding programmes that all the species in the zoo are kept in optimum conditions. Rockwool's insulation will help us meet our obligations to these incredible animals and benefit the wider environment."

Hans Schreuder, Rockwool Managing Director at Rockwool commented: "When we heard that Newquay Zoo was looking for sustainable insulation products we were delighted to assist. One sight of a lion in the snow was enough to convince us to support the zoo in its efforts. It is great to partner with an organisation that is so committed to conservation of endangered species."

The new insulation will help Newquay Zoo limit its carbon emissions and lower its energy bills. The Zoo wanted to choose a provider that could offer an ecologically sound insulation solution, which was completely recyclable and reusable. The facility is committed to sustainable solutions and recently won the award for Best Managed Medium Sized Business at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards.

It is not just home owners that are investing in insulation to help dramatically cut their carbon emissions and lower their energy bills. Many businesses are investing in sustainable insulation products, which will make a significant contribution to the Government's target for reducing green-house emissions.
