Chemtura, a global manufacturer and supplier of specialty chemicals, and Archean Group, have endorsed a Letter of Intent for establishing an alliance in the field of bromine and brominated derivatives.
Archean Group, based in India, is a manufacturer of industrial salt, building materials, industrial chemicals, fertilizers, and minerals such as iron ore and coal. The coalition helps to develop the marine chemical facility of Archean, which manufactures sulphate of potash in the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat.
The Chemtura and Archean alliance will be developed in two phases. The initial phase includes a bromine sourcing alliance between the companies, which will provide Great Lakes Solutions unit of Chemtura a reputed status to meet the global customer demand from a steady, economic and robust Indian supply position. The alliance will form a joint venture (JV) in the second phase. The JV will boost Archean's reputation to increase the use of accessible resources and also leverages the technological strength of Great Lakes Solutions in bromine and brominated derivatives.
Great Lakes Solutions’ US operations produce 100,000MT of bromine per year. Through the alliance, Great Lakes Solutions will expand its business portfolio to obtain bromine from India.
According to the Chairman, CEO and President of Chemtura, Craig Rogerson, the combination of Chemtura’s continuous US supply strengths and strategic supply position in the Indian subcontinent enables the company a unique supply path for global marketing. This strategic alliance along with the release of the new Emerald line of flame retardants enhances Chemtura’s capability to serve the increasing demand in existing industries as well as in emerging high demand sectors.
