PPG Industries declared that it has bought the business of its automotive refinish products distributor, Ducol Coatings South Africa, for an undisclosed amount.
Since 2003, Krugersdorp-based Ducol Coatings has imported and distributed automotive refinish products of PPG across South Africa. The company, which was incepted in 1990, was also active in Namibia.
The Vice President of automotive refinish at PPG, John Outcalt stated that the company is happy about the purchase of the Ducol Coatings business. The acquisition demonstrates the company’s willingness to expand its coatings business in the market. It can now deliver novel automotive refinish products and better training, technical support and customer service programs to customers in the region.
As per Outcalt, PPG will continue to utilize the former distributor and franchisee network of Ducol Coatings as well as the Ducol brand, allowing the company access to supplier network in the expanding South African and adjacent markets.
Outcalt further said that most of the automotive giants have operations in South Africa. In the coming years, PPG expects growth in vehicle sales due to higher purchasing power and population growth which in turn would increase the demand for automotive refinish products, he concluded.
