As part of its growth strategy, specialty chemicals provider, Chemtura, is planning to develop a multi-purpose production plant in Nantong, China.
Chemtura expects that the Nantong plant will serve its Urethanes and Petroleum Additives businesses initially. The plant would also accommodate extra capacity for the company’s other businesses.
The expansion of Chemtura’s Urethanes business, which comprises low-free (LF) prepolymer urethanes, was accelerated by the industrialization of the company’s greener, ultra-performance Adiprene Duracast product series and the growing regional and worldwide demand for the LF products.
Chemtura’s Petroleum Additives business needs regional production and storage facilities for certain products to fulfill the demands of customers. The products include calcium sulfonate grease and synthetic finished fluids such as gear oils, air compressor lubricants and refrigeration lubricants.
Apart from the regional production plant proposal, the company plans to carry out acquisitions and joint ventures and use technical development centers and sales representation for global expansion.
The President of Petroleum Additives at Chemtura, Sean O’Connor commented that the regional production capacity for synthetic lubricants is necessary for the business in order to fulfill the shorter lead times of the market. The President of Urethanes at Chemtura, Matthew Hellstern stated that additional production capacity of LF prepolymer in China would enable the company to expand its innovative product lines.
