Heraeus announced that its Photovoltaic Business Unit has completed the construction of a new facility in Singapore to expand the manufacturing capacity of silver metallization paste for crystalline solar cell applications.
The facility will be officially opened in November 2011. The new site, situated in Tuas, started the operations in June 2011 and comprises sales and technical service, research and development (R&D) and manufacturing. The Singapore R&D lab was completed in early July and the qualification samples will soon be distributed to Heraeus’ clients.
Andy London, VP of Heraeus Materials Technology, pointed out that the major reasons for constructing the Singapore site are to extend the metallization paste production capacity in Asia and to expand the company’s global R&D footprint. He added that the photovoltaic industry has shifted to the Asian market in the past three years. Hence, Heraeus is focusing on this market to comply with these industry changes.
Heraeus will showcase its metallization pastes for photovoltaic applications at the Intersolar North America event, which will be held in San Francisco California from 12 to 14 July, 2011.
