3D Systems has declared that it has purchased Digitalis rapid manufacturing three-dimensional printer line and RenShape stereolithography print material business from Huntsman’s Advanced Materials Division for $41 million in an all-cash deal. These product lines have earned revenues of $7 million in 2010, mainly from RenShape print material sales.
RenShape stereolithography series includes sophisticated materials engineered to print rugged, long-lasting prototypes and components with high precision, as well as intricate replicas having a high-quality and detailed surface finish. These materials are a perfect match to the product offerings of 3D Systems and are suitable for printing selectively colored medical prototypes and snap-fit ABS and polypropylene-like components on SLA printers of 3D Systems.
Digitalis is MEMS-based and rapid manufacturing printer series, which is now at its advanced development and evaluation phase and can accurately and quickly, produce large numbers of components concurrently. This purchase expands 3D Systems’ printer portfolio with Digitalis printer and supports its intellectual property portfolio and print materials technology.
3D Systems intends to add the acquired product lines to its expanding healthcare solutions and rapid manufacturing portfolio. The company believes that this purchase will increase its net income and complement its target operating model.
The President and Chief Executive Officer at 3D Systems, Abe Reichental stated that the company is happy to offer Huntsman’s printers and print materials to its customers across the world. This purchase is in line with the company’s growth strategy and a perfect match to its product portfolio and technology, he added.
