GeNo Receives Two New Patents for Nitric Oxide Delivery

Privately held GeNo, specialising in the development stage technology, has received two new patents for its proprietary Nitric Oxide and delivery technology. With this, the company now has a total of nine US patents for its technology.

While the first of the two new patents is for the conversion of nitrogen dioxide to nitric oxide through the GeNo cartridge technology, the second patent involves the restricted production of nitric oxide.

The technology used in the first patent, NITROSYL can be used as an addition to the current technology and can be used to remove any impurities in the form of nitrogen dioxide in the system. The second patent involves the formation of a matrix made of agents that release nitric oxide, polymer binder and nitric precursors into a single structure in order to deliver nitric oxide to a patient. NITROSYL has the potential to be used in applications related to grave cardiac and pulmonary disorders where treatment can be given by inhaling nitric oxide. The company has plans to introduce this technology in hospitals and ambulance services, which can be beneficial in reducing costs and avoiding the unavailability of proper treatment methods. GeNo’s delivery technologies are still in the investigation stage and yet to receive approval from regulatory authorities. The company is presently carrying out the Phase 2 tests for pulmonary arterial hypertension.
