The construction of a chief battery energy storage station has been achieved by State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) and the BYD. Located in Zhangbei, Hebei Province, this large utility-scale project integrates 140 MW of renewable energy generation including solar and wind, a smart power transmission system as well as a 36 MWh of energy storage.
The size of this battery system is unique. A stable solution for transmitting enormous amounts of renewable electricity safely to the grid is provided by the State Grid system on an exceptional scale. Besides producing 1GW of solar panels per annum, the BYD in this project is focused on providing energy storage batteries in a vast array that is larger than a football field.
The Iron-Phosphate battery technology of BYD has been selected by SGCC due to its extended service life of over 20 years. In addition, BYD’s discharge methodologies and peak shaving and load leveling charge were also been employed. The declaration made by BYD on September 30th, 2011 based on China’s largest eco-friendly battery storage station was the premier MW-level cooperative projects with China’s Southern Power Grid (CSG). This new project though crafted privately by SGCC, is part of the national ‘Golden Sun’ program, surpassing other grid projects in China. The battery energy storage system of BYD elucidates the realization of energy storage in the smart grid, thereby improving renewable energy efficiency by 5%-10%.
According to the Vice President of BYD He Long, the firm collaborates with SGCC and China to construct this extensive energy storage station in order to contribute to the deployment of renewable energy resources.
