US based IEE has introduced its 3D Display technology to retail applications such as kiosks, point of sale displays and pole displays.
The 3M’s autostereoscopic film used in the technology does not require customers to wear 3D glasses to view images. IEE has combined this technology with its display interface technologies to improve viewing quality for its customers. With this introduction, retail vendors can offer 3D content to their customers directly from the point of sale or in merchandise aisles.
An example of such an offering would be displaying movie trailers and other specifically targeted content at retail points such as gaming stores, theatres and gas stations. The offering could be extended to applications such as fast-food restaurants and amusement parks where promotions for popular movies and games are run.
According to Steve Motter, Vice President of Business Development for IEE, the level of 3D content provided in games and movies is increasing steadily and the company’s ability to provide high level of imagery without glasses opens up a new line for retailers. He also added that the main focus of the company is to provide high quality imagery platforms to its customers by delivering useful information like product specifications and other information in retail displays.
