Israel Chemicals (ICL-IP) has signed a licensing agreement with Dow Global Technologies to use Dow Global’s polymeric flame retardant technology for its new FR122P next generation brominated polymeric flame retardant.
The product is targeted at the construction industry particularly for use in extruded and expanded polystyrene insulation products. ICL-IP has already commenced the initial supply of sample quantities to its customers and is likely to begin commercial supply of the product by 2014.
Initial tests conducted by the company have proved that FR122P is compliant with the related fire safety standards.
According to the Vice President for Flame Retardants Ilan Elkan, the company has already begun the construction of a manufacturing plant with a capacity of 10,000 MT with a major amount of investment in order to meet the demands of its customers. Elkan also added that other products in this line of polymeric products included the FR1025P which is the Brominated Epoxy Polymers and the Polyquel. The company intends to introduce new products in the future which will be compliant to environment safety and sustainability.
ICL-IP operates under three segments, which are magnesia, Dead Sea brines and magnesia. The company also produces products for water and agriculture treatment and other new products in magnesia, chlorine and phosphorous.
