Applied Fusion Deploys Another More Advanced Electron Beam Welder

Applied Fusion, a leader in the precision metal fabrication industry for 40 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, announced today the completed installation of the company's second 8-axis CNC large electron beam welder.

The new welder provides a larger working envelope thanks to its 125-ton, 64-cubic meter vacuum chamber (imported from Germany to Applied Fusion's San Leandro facility). A 65" tiltable rotary table with a z-axis movement opens up a wide range of part options. Faster vacuum pumping speeds enable higher throughput and welding of many smaller parts in a single pump-down cycle. Superb, reliable and economical welds with the most advance controls is this machine’s M.O.

"By installing another more advanced electron beam welder, we've stayed on top of the industry's latest trends and technology," says Jeff Musgrove, Applied Fusion President. "This increases our bandwidth and generates faster turnaround times, all while maintaining our high standards of quality and performance."

With this new addition, along with other continuous upgrades, Applied Fusion remains on the cutting edge of the metal manufacturing industry while increasing processing capacity and investing in the local economy. Applied Fusion has a consistent track record of on-time deliveries that maintain quality, accuracy, and reliability, and this latest machine increases the company’s capabilities for completion time and project size and scope.

"Our new welder opens the door to a better customer experience," says Musgrove. "Our operators can begin welding sooner thanks to faster pumping speeds, and increased volume capabilities create manufacturing flexibility. Overall, this saves time and money for us, and more importantly, the customer. Applied Fusion continues to assist our customers with material selections and joint designs with the full capacity to design and manufacture tooling and fixturing in-house."

A family-owned business, Applied Fusion’s leadership has always kept its focus on community, and the company’s new hardware is the latest example of this philosophy. While continuous upgrades of facility and machinery is a bonus for Applied Fusion’s manufacturing capability, it also marks a significant investment in the local economy despite the current economic environment. Greater manufacturing throughput requires more operators and technicians, opening the door to further hiring and a stronger job market for the local high-tech community.

“This investment demonstrates our belief in the technology talent of San Leandro and the Bay Area,” says Musgrove. “Our success depends on the quality and skills of our staff, and we’re excited to help strengthen the trades and our local high-tech job market.”
