Hysteresis Energy Loss of Foam - ASTM D3574 X6 from ADMET

This video shows testing of hysteresis energy of the foam from ADMET. ASTM D3574 is commonly used test standard for flexible cellular foam materials and X6 section specifies a method for measuring the hysteresis energy loss of foams. The difference between the loading energy and the unloading energy, which is expressed as a percentage of the loading energy is knows as hysteresis energy.

Various foams can be characterized and compared with this analysis and also it can be used to determine the applications of the various foams. The two tests which are performed to determine the hysteresis energy loss of foams are Indentation Force Deflection (IFD) test and Compression Force Deflection (CFD) test.
