Uses of Gallium Nitride

This video shows Prof. Sir Colin Humphreys, Director of Research at the University of Cambridge's Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, explaining about the uses of gallium nitride. He founded the Cambridge Centre for Gallium Nitride in 2000 and since then has been working on gallium nitride. The study on gallium nitride has led to some key developments in LED technology.

Colin Humphreys also explains that ultraviolet LEDs can be made by adding aluminium to gallium nitride in order to kill all bacteria and viruses. The gallium nitride can even be used for water purification and could replace silicon power electronic devices for energy efficiency.
