Nordson ASYMTEK has launched Select Coat SC-280, a new film coater. Its design is based on the Nordson SC-104/204 film coater. The new coater is used for automated, selective and accurate application of conformal coating materials. Complex circuit boards can be coated by the SC-280 within seconds.

The SC-280 improves material use by 30% to 50% in conformal coating applications and offers more than 99% fluid transfer efficiency. The coater minimizes or prevents rework, overspray and covering that are common with traditional conformal coating processes. Nordson ASYMTEK's SC-280 enhances material utilization, decreases costs and produces less waste. Other benefits of the coater are faster response, longer life time, eco-friendly and easy maintenance.
The conformal coating material is applied in a uniform film instead of atomized spray. The material is applied under low pressure on the circuit board through a dispenser.
Nordson ASYMTEK's SC-280 is available in two versions, SC-280N non-circulating and SC-280C circulating. The thickness of the coating applied lies in the range between 0.5-8 mils for solvent-based materials. The system manages viscosities of about 100 cps.
The film coater has a single valve design and a stainless steel fluid path, which can be used with almost all coating materials. Numerous types of cross-cut nozzles and an optional five-axis accessory are available. It has a rotating axis ranging from 0° to 90°. The Select Coat SC-280’s ventilated system and non-atomized coating process reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds.
