Novozymes Joins Lignol Energy’s Consortium

Novozymes, an enzyme company and a global leader in bioinnovation, has become a member of Lignol Energy’s industrial consortium to carry out an ethanol project funded by Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC).

Lignol Energy, a Canadian company, provides biorefining technologies for the production of biofuels and renewable chemicals.

As a part of the consortium, Novozymes will offer development and technical support to convert woody biomass into cost-competitive cellulosic ethanol. Both companies have successfully completed their R&D program. By partnering with Novozymes, Lignol has made a major advancement to produce cellulosic ethanol that is cost-effective with gasoline. Lignol recognizes Novozymes for its commitment towards the success of the consortium.

Combining Lignol’s highly reactive and clean substrates with Novozymes’ new enzymes is expected to create a convincing cost structure for commercial conversion of cellulose-to-ethanol.
