HA International and Lignol Energy have revealed the successful production trials of a new foundry resin.
The resin formulation contains Lignol's HP-L, a high performance renewable chemical. HA International is a joint venture between Momentive Specialty Chemicals and Hüttenes Albertus (HA) and a global foundry resin producer. Lignol Energy is a Canadian firm engaged in the development of technologies for the production of renewable chemicals and advanced biofuels.
The tests have been carried out in the production of metal castings used in both ferrous and non-ferrous impellors. The experiment results have met or surpassed customer needs in terms of performance and decreases odor and smoke. The foundry resin formulation displaces certain petrochemicals found in resins by utilizing the HP-L high performance lignin.
Displacement of petrochemicals in the resin formulation can offer better environmental performance and higher price stability to HA International’s customers.
Currently, HA International is negotiating the supply agreement with Lignol Energy to continue shipment of the new foundry resin to its clients. HA International will also assess other resin formulations to use Lignol's HP-L. Lignol’s President and CEO, Ross MacLachlan stated that the foundry resin formulations provide a major worldwide market opportunity for the company.
