Air Products has inked a long-term deal to supply hydrogen to Shell Oil’s refinery located in Deer Park, Texas.
Air Products will supply hydrogen to the Deer Park facility in the mid of 2013. As per the deal, the facility will be linked to Air Products’ hydrogen pipeline supply network in the Gulf Coast region.
Air Products is involved in the improvement of its hydrogen pipeline supply capacity in the Gulf Coast region in order to develop it as the largest hydrogen pipeline network in the world. In October 2010, the company revealed its plans to build a 180-mile long pipeline.
Air Products’ new pipeline expansion, which is in the project implementation phase, will link its Louisiana hydrogen system to the Texas hydrogen system. Upon completion, the new hydrogen pipeline supply network will spread between the Houston Ship Channel in Texas and New Orleans, making it the largest hydrogen facility and supply network in the globe. This integrated pipeline network will connect over 20 hydrogen facilities and more than 600 mi of pipelines.
The new network, which is anticipated to be operate in 2012, will distribute more than 1.2 billion cu ft of hydrogen every day to the Texas and Louisiana petrochemical and refinery industries. Hydrogen is commonly utilized in petroleum refining methods to eliminate contamination presented in crude oil such as aromatics, olefins and sulfur. Air Products’ Vice President of North America Tonnage Gases, Wilbur Mok stated that the company is happy about the selection to deliver hydrogen to Shell's Deer Park facility.
