Umeco's Structural materials business has signed an agreement with leading Canadian motorsports organization Multimatic Motorsports to sponsor two Aston Martin Vantage V8s in the 2012 Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge (CTSCC), allowing Umeco to promote its new brand and advanced composite materials to a continent-wide audience of race car enthusiasts.
Umeco, a trusted supplier to Multimatic for over ten years, has provided composite materials for advanced projects, including the Aston Martin One-77 carbon fibre monocoque. Umeco's decision to support Multimatic Motorsports' Aston Martin race cars in the 2012 Grand-Am CTSCC program will allow us to promote our composite materials to the motorsport, automotive, aerospace and wind energy industries.
Motorsport is a sector where Umeco has unrivalled practical experience, especially on the highly-competitive, technically-demanding Formula One and Le Mans circuits. This sector is the development platform for lightweight and advanced materials such as composites, where every pound saved on a structure can make the difference between standing on the podium or being a runner up.
Using a wide range of Umeco's composite materials, Multimatic has pushed the boundaries of possibility in motorsports for many years. Since its racing debut in 1992, Multimatic Motorsports - the competition arm of Multimatic Engineering - has established itself as one of North America's premier racing organisation, contesting and winning races and championships across North America and around the globe. Multimatic has had wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans LMP675 class in 2000, the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona Prototype class in 2003, and the 12 Hours of Sebring GT2 class in 2006. Multimatic is actively engaged in car design, engineering, testing and development, track support and turn-key competition management, and is proficient in the application of advanced composites.
Stuart Lowndes, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing - Umeco Structural materials - Americas, said: "We have an established association with Multimatic and recognise them as a leader in their field. They are a respected company in the high performance, engineered automotive segment, and continue to use our composite materials to give their products that essential competitive edge." He continues, "We hope that 2012, Multimatic Motorsports' 20th anniversary year, will be rewarding for them; we wish them every success."
