Solutia Inc. today announced that its CPFilms subsidiary, a leading manufacturer of precision coated films for industrial, commercial and solar control applications, is introducing MF15LT, a premium clean, optically clear protective masking film.
Developed primarily for electronics and display applications that require cleanliness and very easy removability, MF15LT leaves no adhesive residue after removal.
Coated in a clean room environment to avoid contamination, this specialty film can be produced up to 63” adhesive width on 1.5 mil optically clear polyester base, with haze values of less than 3% and transmittance greater than 87%. Other base films may be produced on a custom basis as specified, including 2 and 3 mil PET. CPFilms ClearSIL® 1 mil T10 “easy” release silicone release liner is used opposite the low tack acrylic adhesive, and it must be removed prior to application.
Testing adhesion to glass following storage at room temperature and 70% relative humidity, the peel values were 0.53 ounces per inch (15 grams/cm). The same testing on treated polyester gave adhesion of 0.35 ounces per inch (10 gram/cm). Such a light tack prevents damage to the surface during stripping. With no adhesive residue, there is no chance for contamination resulting from the surface during subsequent converting.
There are multiple uses for MF15LT. These include use as a protective film during subsequent processing of easily damaged substrates, such as optically clear polyester, vacuum coated aluminum or sputtered film, to avoid scratching during coating and laminating. Typical applications include optical electronic displays, graphics, decorative films, electronics, and specialty adhesive tapes.
