According to the latest report released by the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology, the emerging international market for nanotechnology-enabled products is expected to expand at ~19% between 2011 and 2013 and will reach US$ 2.4 trillion by 2015.
The cumulative growth is mainly due to huge investment in research and development initiatives as well as commercialization by government bodies and companies across the world.
NaturalNano’s CEO, Jim Wemett stated that the emerging nanotechnology has played a major role in several industries and in the 21st century will influence various segments. He mentioned that the company has obtained more than 20 patents and is well placed in the market to leverage the opportunities in cosmetics and polymers areas. He added that since 2004, the company’s patented technical methods and design proficiency has enabled it to launch new nano-based products.
Over the last couple of years, NaturalNano has delivered more than one ton of treated Halloysite Nanotubes (HNT) to Fiabila for the production of Sally Hansen range of nail polish. The HNTs are utilized to include Vitamin E and other constituents into Fiabila’s products. NaturalNano has been working with Fiabila to locate further additives of nail lacquer and expand the product line. Additionally, another leading cosmetic developer is awaiting regulatory certification for two products based on HNT technology.
NaturalNano provides various grades of treated HNT for utilization in polymer nanocomposites. The Pleximer polymer nanocomposites feature a minimum of one polymer material or matrix and one nano-particulate filler material. Currently, nanocomposites are used in several products such as construction materials, automobiles, textiles and food packing.
NaturalNano has collaborated with various polymer firms, including Cascade Engineering of Grand Rapids, to commercialize the HNT technology.
