Bayer MaterialScience has expanded its medical thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) product series with the addition of three new materials, Texin RxHM125, Texin RxSTX120 and Texin RxT70A. The new TPU grades were launched at the MD&M East conference.
The Texin RxHM125 is a clear resin with a mild amber shade and has 330,000 PSI flexural modulus and a Rockwell hardness value of 125. The Texin RxSTX120 TPU grade is available from cream to ivory shades. It is an opaque material and has excellent impact properties. The Texin RxSTX120 and the Texin RxHM125 are high-modulus medical grade TPUs that are ideal for fittings, stopcocks, equipment housings, luers, clips and connectors. These TPU grades have excellent resistance to abrasion, chemical and heat. They have low thermal expansion coefficient, low mold shrinkage and low moisture absorption.
The Texin RxT70A resin is ideal for various medical applications, including specialty profiles and tubing, catheter balloons and catheters. Other applications include soft overmolding and gaskets. This plasticizer-free resin has better moisture vapor transmission rates, low temperature flexibility and superior hydrolysis. The Texin RxT70A TPU offers excellent balance between toughness, strength and flexibility. The plasticizer-free resin also provides better adhesion properties and can be used on a wide range of substrates, including polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, polycarbonate and nylon.
