Quantifying Lithium Content Using the Composition by Difference Method

Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries have become the go-to solution for energy storage in various applications, thanks to their high energy density and low weight. Despite their success, there is significant potential for enhancing energy capacity and efficiency through the optimization of materials and device design. A key challenge lies in understanding the microstructural and compositional evolution and degradation mechanisms at the micro- and nano-scales, where much remains unexplored.

In this webinar, we introduce an innovative technique poised to transform lithium materials research: the Lithium Composition by Difference Method (Li-CDM). This method enables the first-ever quantitative microscale mapping of lithium distribution across various lithium compounds and alloys, including those used in aerospace applications. By providing new insights into lithium behavior at these critical scales, Li-CDM offers a powerful tool for advancing the performance and durability of Li-ion batteries and lithium-based materials.
