An Introduction to Solid-State NMR Spectroscopy

Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a quickly improving approach that broadens the spectrum of samples and use cases that may be studied via contemporary NMR spectroscopy.

In this event, JEOL USA will briefly introduce solid-state NMR, summarizing its fundamental principles and the hardware needed to conduct solid sample experiments. During the event, JEOL USA will hone in on essential use cases of solid-state NMR for chemistry, biology, material research, and pharmaceutical sciences.

About the Presenter

Presenter: Michal Malon, NMR Applications Chemist, JEOL (U.K.) LTD.

Michal earned his Ph.D. from Palacky University, Olomouc in the Czech Republic, where he focused on the synthesis, characterization, and biological activity of transition metal complexes.

Subsequently, he collaborated with Dr. Hiroyuki Koshino on developing triple-resonance NMR experiments at natural abundance and elucidating natural product structure. Michal also worked with Prof. Shigeki Kuroki at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, focusing on developing carbon alloy catalysts for fuel cells.

In 2009, Michal joined the JEOL Group, serving as an NMR application specialist and later as an NMR sales promotion assistant manager in Tokyo for a decade. Since February 2019, he has worked as an NMR applications chemist at JEOL UK.
